Product Review: Kellogg's Fiber Plus Antioxidants Bar

I was at the grocery store and they were handing out samples of some new fiber bars, comparable to Fiber One bars. I grabbed one and was really surprised by how tasty it was. Way better than Fiber One bars, in my opinion. The bars are a tiny bit smaller, but not by much.

They come in two flavors, Chocolate Chip and Dark Chocolate Almond, which is the one that I bought. 2 points a piece, 130 Calories, 5g fat, and 9g fiber. The Chocolate Chips have a little less calories.

Check them out!!!

  1. Now, Jen, before I buy these awesome looking bars, you'll have to get back to me on how well your intestinal tract faired after eating one!!! Fiber One bars have been banned in my household due to hazardous fumes! LOL!

  2. You know what??? I didn't pay attention. Next time I eat one I will see....(or smell :) and let you know.

  3. I bought these today and I really like them. Thanks for the recommendation.

  4. Hazardous fumes emitted from my lower GI tract after one of these today. +BM within 6 hours. Tasty bar though...filling. Will try one again in a few days and see if I have the same reaction.

  5. These are delicious, filling, and really give you the fiber you need. However, do not eat before you need to be in front of a class, making a presentation, or milling around people you need to impress. They give you a lot of GAS. I literally felt my stomach bloat up with air and then had interminable gas for hours. No smell, just gas. Not good if you need to be in the public forum!

  6. These are GREAT! I noticed them just as they came out, before I even noticed the ads, and had to try them! lol Personally, I haven't experienced any "harardous fumes" or GI trouble. lol But, every 'body' is different. ha

  7. These may taste good but don't let the advertising fool you. Aside from the Fiber, they really don't have much in them that is nutritionally beneficial. They also have hydrogenated oil in them. I mean they are better than say chocolate bars, but even chocolate bars have "anti-oxidants" in them. Granola is good but they use half granola and half puffed rice( not that healthy). I still prefer the taste of the fiber one bars over these also.

  8. Taste is similar to fiberone if you ask me, just softer and sweeter though. I get the same amount of gas with slightly less odor, perhaps the anti-oxidants are being utilized by the vast amounts of noxious fumes being produce? Anyways, I enjoy eating a couple of these when I have the day off and farting the day away. I like the odor that fiber one produces a bit more, but the volume of gas production is similar without the wetness.

I truly enjoy unwrapping these an feeding them to my girlfriend without telling her of the side-effects. She has not farted in front of me but I am sure that a couple of these will do the trick.

  9. That last comment is ridiculous. Seriously what a douche.

I just ate one of these before searching Google for gas complications. Damn. I hope I make it through the night. I hate the gas the Fiber One's produce. Grrrrrr

  10. These bars are spawn of the devil. I bought two boxes so I could have a healthy bar on the fly to work. Used to by nutrigrain bars... very sick of them. Well two hours after my first bar I was crippled with stomach pain. Then farting like a foghorn for the next 6 hours. No putting two and two together. Continued to have one for breakfast for the rest of the week.. Made a doctor appointment for the painful cramping in my stomach. Until I googled "fiber plus makes me sick". Yep. Guess I'll be cancelling that appt and tossing my second box. Ready to be done with gas, nausea, and cramping!

  11. Just a helpful note here. If you eat too much fiber without increasing your water intake, it will produce a lot of gas, bloating and even constipation. Fiber clings to water in order to be processed and ultimately removed as waste. If you're drinking enough (lots) of water, then you will not bloat or have gas.

  12. I eat these fiber bars all the time and did experience quite a bit of gas in the beginning but now just a few little toots from time to time. Lol. Fiber from what I understand can give you gas, especially if your body is not use to getting its recommended amount. But now that I have been aiming for 25g or more fiber a day, high fiber noodles, veggies etc I have adjusted fairly well. I absolutely love them, they are my treat without messing my weight lose up and also giving me the fiber I need.

  13. I had a Fiber Plus Antioxidants Bar yesterday with no gassy effects. I had another one today and I feel like "Tootie" from the Facts of Life! I've been banished to the spare bedroom! Anyway, after reading another post, I realized something. I am a surfer and after a long session I really make an effort to stay hydrated the rest of the day. I surfed yesterday, stayed hydrated, had a bar - no gas. Today on the other hand, I was at work, didn't have nearly as much water as I should have, had a bar and two hours later - toot, toot, tootsie goodbye! I love the flavor of these bars, so I will try them one more time with plenty of water. If that doesn't work, I hate the idea of waste, but I'll throw my two boxes away. I'm miserable!

  16. I LOVE these bars and there is now a new flavor Chocolatey Peanut Butter that is sooooo yummy! I had stopped eating these bars b/c I ran out and forgot to get more...Plus I had fallen off the weight watchers wagon. I did get quite a bit of gas yesterday after having one, but today I have been drinking a lot of water and so far so good. If you like the other flavors you have to try this one!

  17. after readin all these comments, and seeing how people say they've bought 2 boxes and eperienced side effects... i've come to the conclusion once again: IF YOU HAVE SIDE EFFECTS, WHY ARE YOU EATIN THE FULL BAR?? if you havent ha this much fiber before, your body is certainly not used to it, you must drink lots of water with it!

if youve never had a fiber bar, build up to it, have a quarter of a bar the first day with a glass of water. for fiber to work the right way, you MUST have it with water, i cannot say this enough. have a quarter for the bar for a couple of days, you will most likely have no effects, after a week maybe, eat half a bar and so on. I personally only ever eat half a bar a day since I already eat other foods with fiber in them.

Take it from me. I learnt the hard way. First time i had it[FIBER ONE]it was sooo good, i had 2 in a row. literally 2 minutes later, i can in the can with uncontrollable diarrhea, nausea and dizziness. for this, i believe fiber is better when it didnt taste so good, because it can really fool you.

  18. ok I love the take of the fiber plus bars and every single time I eat one, I am full on gassy ALL NIGHT! I was beginning to think something was REALLY wrong with me. Even was going to make an appt with the GI, but coincidentally, I wouldn't have any gas on the days I didn't eat one. Then I did a controlled study, and sure enough, these bad boys are the culprit.
Nothing tasted good enough to put up with this mess, and I do drink a ton of water, so it isn't that!

    Chomp with caution!!!!!!

  19. Fiber One bars are way better tasting for sure. These Fiber Plus bars from Kelloggs taste like the smell of play-do to me. The Fiber One bars taste like a delicious treat that I really enjoy. I feel like I have to make myself eat the Kelloggs version.Does anyone else think it tastes like it has play-do in it or is it just me? Oh and on the box it says to increase fiber gradually as gastrointestinal discomfort may occcur.

  20. It totally tastes like play-do to me! I thought I was the only one! haha I don't plan on buying another box :)

  21. I definitely have to recommend Fiber One instead of these.

After a couple of weeks of eating the same high-fiber diet, including Fiber One bars, with no ill-effects, I switched to Fiber Plus because they were on sale at the grocery store.

I had one for breakfast before work and by midday I was running to the bathroom every fifteen minutes. It was awful. Thankfully, some pepto got me through the rest of the day, but that was it for me and Fiber Plus. So not worth it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I like these more than the Fiber One Bars. I am sure it is just a taste preference. Don't eat more than one bar a day until you get use to the increased fiber! Chocolate and Peanut Butter are my favorite!

  23. I had been eating Fiber One bars for a week. I went to my local mart and noticed they didn't have my favorite type of Fiber One, but rather, the Kellogs Fiber Plus version instead. I ate one for breakfast this morning and was hungry after an hour -- which was REALLY disappointing. The Fiber One bars kept me completely satisfied and full until 12 minimum, and I sometimes wouldn't notice that I should eat until 1.

I guess I'm a Fiber One person. I only had distress for the first day, which I assume was my body's way of saying "Woah, I've never had this much fiber before..."

  24. ummm...i made the mistake of eating these bars (2 day) for 3 days....holy crap!! for real. bad news. these are not good for you. lol they wreck your GI

  25. 3, 2, 1... Blastoff.

    Nuff said.

  26. i can eat anything; not these... severe stomach cramps, no gas though... they should have a warning label on these!

  27. I picked up these bars after years of other ones and I have to say they are delicious! I love the peanutbutter/chocolate ones. That being said, my GI and rear end is a mess! I can usually get through the first half of my day (until after lunch) but since I teach, getting a 5 minute break is really tough! I've noticed I've had a BM in the morning after eating it at 6am and then again in the afternoon...sometimes twice more. The stomach bloating and gas is terrible. I wish I could get the taste into a regular, more filling bar!

  28. These bars are just delicious!! They are 3 points on the new Weight Watchers PointsPlus program.

  30. Hello folks. Some great post. I am getting back on the high fiber treadmill. I picked up two boxes of fiber plus. So far I've eaten two bars and 3 cups of water and no ill effects. Thanks for reminding me of how important staying hydrated is, especially on a high fiber diet.

  31. kellogg's Fiber Plus Antioxidants Bars - Delicious tasty bars, BUT the bloat and gas is horrific!!! neither tons of water, GAS-X, nor Mylanta helps! You're literally miserable all Day!!

  32. Ate gift (!)of 2 Caramel Cocconut Fudges last night, 1st time to eat them; hunger attack. Very tasty; 2 bars total=carb38; but has lots of bad things in it, corn syrup, oil. This morning shocked at the gas tooting and 3x bm's. I feared my toots!First ingredient is Chickory Root.. need to check to see if that has laxative effects! Pkg warns drink water..but running to the john for poops... bull. Stick to a bowl of real oatmeal or make own bars w/o all the crapper crap.

    ReplyDelete
  33. oops: pkg didn't say drink water but to increase fiber gradually if not used to it, but I'm used to fiber.
I did note the product was made in MEXICO.. hope they didn't use the water there to make these things. Why do corporations want us pooping so much.. think Activia, another laxative on the market. Eat apples or fruit, figs, oatmeal, not all these chemical pressed into bars. America needs to wake up, fast. Eat real food.

  34. OMG, they should seriously put a warning on the box. 'Will cause serious gas!'.
There was a big sale so I stocked up on these not knowing the consequences. I have 2-3 bars a day and by the evening, i'm farting up a storm. Not only that, my gas really stinks, more than usual..lol
The first few days, I was running to the washroom, but this is my 2nd week and my 'regular activies' are not as 'full' as before. I guess it's constipation...dammnit!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I have not read all of the comments but is everyone missing why these things do what they do? The first ingredient is Chicory Root which is an Herbal Laxative...works pretty well eh?

  36. My sister got me hooked on the fiber bar, it really taste good she says. The fiber bar taste just like the girl scout cookie, so off I went to buy these wonderful bars. I started out slow thinking I would work my way up to the bar. I didn't know what was causing the amount of gas, I have not ever experienced this much gas in my life. Finally, a friend of mine had me research the fiber bar. Guess what, two hours later I can play a musical tune...yes its the fiber bar.

  37. I had the FiberPlus bars for the first time a few weeks ago and noticed a little exhaust. I took one with me today while doing some errands. Again, I had the chocolate-peanut butter, and it was very good. Well, it's now 10 hours later, and I still have gasitosis, big time. It's embarrassing when you're sitting in church and you just can't stop it. Thankfully no one was sitting with ear (or nose) range! A full bar is just too much, I guess. Better to get fiber from veggies, cereals with no problems. Proceed with caution on these GasPlus bars!!

2 or less of these trename them 'GasPlus'. Beware!!

  38. The last paragraph of my first posting here on the FiberPlus bars had some non-sensical stuff. My stomach felt so awful when I was posting that my proofing habits were pretty bad. Sorry about that!! The nine (9) grams of fiber is what drew me in; and they do fill you up and taste good, too. I feel much better today after that awful gas-attack a few days ago; I never experienced anything like that in my life from a bar like that! Thanks for listening!

  39. I enjoyed a fiber one bar before work the other day and literally shit my pants two hours later. After lunch and a second cup of coffee, I blew the back out of out of our bathroom toilet. Be careful.

  40. Rightly FiberPlus Bars come with a warning! I just finished off my first box and bought two more boxes, I absolutely love them. Getting used to them can be a little rough on your GI tract, I had extreme gas for two-three days. One box later I still have gas but my new breakfast isn't making me smell anymore. I eat one for breakfast each day and they really feel me up and they help make me feel energized so I can get around faster and better then I used to before!

  41. I have bought the Kellogg's fiber bars and had serious gas....on the upside I felt full and didn't get the munchies as often. I also bought and OTC gas reducer....have been eating fiber bars for a month and have lost an additional 7 lbs breaking my plateau....good luck everyone.
