Reasons for Overeating

I just read a very powerful post on Roni's site. She talks about emotional eating and it is really great. Here is a little quote:

“You will not lose weight until you value yourself more.”

It really made me think about myself and my own habits. I feel that since my IVF attempt in June, when I have let "getting pregnant" go, I am finally making some progress with getting in shape. I feel like a big weight has been lifted (not pounds, but figuratively :) and I can see what a toll this (infertility) has taken on me, mentally and physically. Out of the past 6 years, I have been trying to get pregnant for 4 of them, and pregnant and having a newborn, the other 2.

Now, I feel like I can make fitness goals. It is exciting.

I can't wait to see what happens.

I promise to post more...

Delayed response but wow - thanks for sharing that post! I'm so glad it helped make you feel more "up" to getting more on track! (I personally can't imagine the toll that takes on you - even though it's something my sister has been going through for the last almost-two years...)

Getting "skinny" is so much easier when your head is in that motivated place. The only thing I ever found that works is the WeightWatchers points system... but even that didn't work for me until my head was in the right place!

it is SO SO TRUE.
for me I carried around 40 extra pounds UNTIL it was no longer about looks and something else.
and I valued my body for why it could do for me and CHOSE to treat it with love and compassion.

xo xo,

Miz.

You are so right about being there mentally and valuing yourself. Everybody wants to make changes but it's all empty because they don't think they can really do it.

That was a great post with a good message. Good luck on your fitness goals and I hope that when I come back you have posted more.

Yes, you really have to have your head in the correct place to reach any goal. Weight loss is just another mental aspect in life. Until your head is in the right place you will not make any life style changes.

I've tried various low-carb, low-calorie, and low-fat diets for the past couple of years. Although the Atkins diet is very popular, it made me feel somewhat unhealthy.
The diet plan I'm on right now is the Medifast Diet. The caloric intake is roughly 800-1000 calories. However, it doesn't make my body feel weak. It is a bit of a pricey diet, but there are plenty of coupons available on the internet (i.e. http://www.swoopup.com/stores/deals/Medifast-Diet). You should never pay full price.
My advice is just choose a diet plan which your body reacts positively to. No one knows your body better than you do!

That is an excellent quote. What I find is that there needs to be some sort of "synthesis" between your exercises and psychological well being. Keep up the great work with your articles and please stop by my health blog sometime. The web address is http://healthy-nutrition-facts.blogspot.com/.

It is really hard to get through a lot of situations when you get engrossed in it. I had been as well and have done the same. It takes work to get back on track to a healthier regimen.

You should post soon and update your progress.

By the way, I work as a virtual assistant of The Healthy Moms ( http://www.thehealthymoms.net ), the site is fairly new and I thought I would drop by some mom and health related sites to spread the word.

I'm a new reader but I was just browsing through blogs and came across yours. The quote about over eating really hit me. I thought I did value myself, but really if I did as much as I think, I would be taking better care of myself. Thank you for the eye opener.

Also, from the looks of it, you do WeightWatchers? Me too! It is the perfect diet for me. Creating new lasting habits is way better than starving myself in my opinion.

This quote is very true. Most obese people over eat due to emotional issues. Great post, thanks for sharing.

I've certainly heard of weight watchers and I congratulate those who've been successful with it.
However, I also know some that have yo-yo'd with this program for years.
I've been on Isagenix the past couple of months. No urges, cravings and significant weight and inch loss!
I'm currently on a maintenance program with them...
thanks

It sounds like you are pretty strong and have an understanding of how difficult this can be. I think i find it helps to not get down on yourself if you fail at something one day. This just leaves room for improvement. Keep up the exercise and hard work. and whatever is meant to happen will happen. I am a nurse and a valued costumer of WW points plus system. Im doing the online version and I love it. Vacuming is considered exercise. Yes please!! Keep up the work and stay strong.

Dorothy of Oz is sure to be an instant classic for the whole family. The film is due out next year but the buzz being created is undeniable. Between the vastly talented cast and the original music, how could you not be excited! Glee's Lea Michele is in the title role as Dorothy Gale and she will bring such a fresh sound to the legendary character. Let us not forget Martin Short, Bernadette Peters, Kelsey Grammer, Dan Aykroyd, and many more bringing life to both new and older familiar characters!! Dorothy of Oz has all the components to be the new family favorite!
