Blog Post Spotlight: Treat Yourself

Wow.

A friend of mine, Melanie (who actually guest posts here once in a while) emailed me a link to a great blog post about "treats." It fits right into my Skinny Habit of the Week. Here is a snippet, and I know you will want to read the whole post:

"I wonder why you can’t get this simple lesson to stick in your head. The days you eat well are the days that you feel brighter and cheerier. You get more done. You aren’t plagued by headaches. The kids are positively affected by your happier outlook. You enjoy them more and they enjoy you.

You call your indulgences “treats”? No, dear self. A treat is something that makes you feel good. Try a few chapters of a favourite book. A bubble bath. A cuddle session with your kids. Try turning on a fun song and dancing. Try eating something you enjoy that nourishes your body and your self-respect both."

Check it out.
I promise it will not be a waste of time.

Wow I loved that post. I read the whole thing. She's got it right. We should all really think more about what we're doing to ourselves before we make these choices. I have the same problem...sometimes I eat to punish myself. Why?! Why do I need to do that? I don't. And I shouldn't. What a great post!

I was debating whether to have a piece of chocolate cake...and then I read your post and I realize eating that cake won't feel good. You're right it isn't a treat!

I'm blushing! Thanks so very much for the spotlight. It's nice to have one of those ah-ha moments and then be given the gift of being able to share it.

I have been doing something similar with my little girl, Ashlyn. She likes a "treat" after going potty in the loo. I have been trying to do something instead with her that she likes-- like getting out one of her favorite toys and such...and then I read this post and smiled because last night as I told my husband about this adventure with Ashlyn...I said I need to apply it to me too! I just keep hoping she'll stay potty trained. She loves sugar treats as much as me. And let's face it...It's hard to find time to "treat" ourselves the way we should!
